Typically with this learning activity students just rotated through five or six stations where they would take notes, answer questions, or take a post lab quiz. I decided to turn each station into a clue checkpoint so as to solve the mystery turning this into a gamification activity. At each checkpoint groups of students had to complete what was asked of them correctly. If they answered everything correctly they would then earn a character badge (Daphne, Fred, Velma, Shaggy and Scooby). They had to fill the mystery machine with all the characters to win and solve the mystery! Students were more motivated, cooperative and challenged with this gaming activity versus the traditional stations. If students had incorrect answers they had to do an extra challenge to get back into the game. The gamification of this activity was a success and I will definitely be doing this activity this way in years to follow. Student achievement and enjoyment were both increased!
